![]() ![]() You can take other mutation combos, but you'll really need to step up your game and just not get hit. You shouldn't be getting hit more than a handful of times per biome. If you're still dying, to either Malaise or HP loss, you need to work on your mechanics and avoid getting hit. And you still have 4 flasks and even a few refills if you save gold. You get a massive increase to your Malaise bar, healing after every kill, and Malaise reduction after every boss kill. Necro + DI is imo the most broken Mutation combo in the game. Take Necromancy, Dead Inside and whatever else you want. Survival is OP, and still is even with Malaise. But that's mainly just your own expectations not being met. Just know that most people feel that way - you can often see it live on streams, in fact. I know that I was really salty as I progressed through the difficulties. Heck, alienation can take the malaise edge off ANY build (though, with purple, you've got the tiniest HP pool, so why bother?!). ![]() Sure, you still have to manage malaise, but alienation or extended healing can take the edge off. With a huge HP pool and passive healing, you can really be unstoppable. Survival is absolutely NOT gimped on 4/5BC. 4BC pressures you to really get that down, and take as few hits as possible. By the time you reach 4BC, you should have a good idea of how enemies behave, and how to counter them. Everything is still viable once you're accustomed to the difficulty, but yes, to get to that point you will probably have to stick to some particularly effective builds. And as far as play-styles go, the only thing that really stops working in 4BC would be rally builds. I wouldn't say it necessarily slows the pace of the game down, but rather pushes you to get very good at knowing how to tackle every single enemy and group without taking damage. It is pretty punishing at the start, but after playing with it for so long, I personally have found Malaise to be my current favorite mechanic in any video game. I never played above 3BC until Rise of the Giant came out, because it always sounded like it was going to make the game too hard to enjoy playing. Honestly the game on any lower difficulty feels too easy for me now, and I couldn't imagine playing without Malaise. I've been playing on 4BC+ for over 300 hours at this point, and have beaten 5BC many times.
